How you will Achieve More with Intellia:

The Business Development (“BD”) team is a key contributor to Intellia’s strategic growth, establishing high-impact partnerships and accessing external innovations that reinforce the company’s leadership position within the genome-editing field. The Associate Director, Innovation Scouting role within the BD team will work closely with Intellia’s R&D leadership to identify and evaluate industry- and academic-based technologies and enabling partnerships that align with Intellia’s strategic goals. In this role, you will play a critical role in expanding Intellia’s industry-leading genome editing platform.

You will lead outreach to key industry and academic innovators, proactively building strong communication channels and establishing productive scientific interactions across both in vivo and cell therapy application areas. In partnership with stakeholders from R&D, technical operations, strategy, and legal, you will coordinate cross-functional reviews of the most compelling opportunities and drive due-diligence processes, including MTA-based evaluations, that will ultimately inform the company’s strategic decision-making. Opportunity to build additional BD skillsets in the context of in-licensing discussions and also contribute to other types of transactions under mentorship from the hiring manager as well as other senior members of the BD team.  Additional role responsibilities include:

  • Work closely with the CSO and additional members of R&D leadership to identify and prioritize Intellia’s innovation needs

  • Lead innovation outreach activities and serve as the “face” of Intellia to key external stakeholders, ensuring the company is appropriately positioned to access relevant technologies emerging from industry and academic sources

  • Attend scientific and partnering conferences to identify relevant enabling technologies and to communicate Intellia’s scouting priorities to external parties

  • In partnership with R&D, technical operations, strategy, and legal, lead cross-functional due diligence processes to review external opportunities, including assessment of scientific merit and business rationale

  • Coordinate scientific meetings and facilitate efficient information exchange with external parties

  • In partnership with R&D, legal, and other members of the BD team, negotiate MTAs, SRAs, MSAs, and potentially other types of agreements, managing the resulting collaborations where appropriate

  • Maintain appropriate databases and/or dashboards for tracking scouting activities

  • Regularly report to the BD team and executive leadership on the progress of scouting activities


About You:

Our ideal candidate will bring prior work experience in biotech/pharma BD functions, life sciences consulting, venture capital, and/or university-based technology licensing. A strong scientific understanding of genetic medicine technologies and their clinical application is required. Additional role requirements include:

  • Ph.D. in a relevant scientific field

  • Self-motivated, solution-oriented, and able to collaborate with a diverse set of stakeholders

  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to progress multiple workflows in parallel

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

The BD team at Intellia is a high-impact function. The team’s work contributes directly to Intellia’s strategic growth through partnerships. The team is comprised of an SVP, Head of BD, and two Senior Directors responsible for the generation and execution of a full range of BD activities including in and out-licensing, strategic partnerships, and other creative transactions (e.g., NewCo formation). Each member of the team plays a significant role in advancing and executing the company’s BD strategy. Team members within BD support each other. Senior members of the team are committed to growing more junior members to gain additional BD experiences.  

All team members are currently working from home, however, we do have plans to return to the office in the near future. Therefore, we require candidates to be local to Cambridge, MA, or open to relocating.
