Why Join Intellia?
Our mission is to develop curative genome editing treatments that can positively transform the lives of people living with severe and life-threatening diseases.
Beyond our science, we live our four core values: One, Explore, Disrupt, Deliver and feel strongly that you can achieve more at Intellia. We have a single-minded determination to excel and succeed together. We believe in the power of curiosity and pushing boundaries. We welcome challenging thoughts and imagination to develop innovative solutions. And we know that patients are counting on us to make the promise a reality, so we must maintain high standards and get it done.
We want all of our people to go beyond what is possible. We aren’t constrained by typical end rails, and we aren’t out to just “treat” people. We’re all in this for something more. We’re driven to cure and motivated for change. Just imagine the possibilities of what we can do together.
How you will Achieve More with Intellia:
We are seeking a skilled, creative, and motivated Associate Scientist to join our growing Delivery Chemistry team. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting projects involving the delivery of CRISPR/Cas9 components to a variety of tissues. You will be expected to lead efforts directed at the synthesis, purification, and characterization of lipids to be formulated into lipid nanoparticles and small molecules. Additional primary responsibilities include:
Explore and implement chemical strategies to access diverse lipid scaffolds
Plan and execute synthetic routes for target compounds
Develop structure-activity relationships and design lipids with optimal delivery properties
Identify, design, and synthesize ligands and linkers for conjugation to nanoparticles, lipids, or macromolecules for targeted delivery
Analyze data and communicate strategies to colleagues and management
Contribute to the development and execution of publications (i.e. patents, peer-reviewed papers, and scientific presentations)
Assist in chemistry lab operations, including the ordering of supplies and maintenance of equipment
Do you have a strong background in synthetic organic chemistry/multi-step synthesis and experience with drug delivery systems? Our ideal candidate will be an energetic and hands-on experimentalist, eager to work on new initiatives. If you have strong attention to detail, planning, and time-management skills, we encourage you to apply! Qualifications for this role include:
BS or MS Degree in Chemistry or related discipline
5+ (for BS) or 3+ (for MS) years of industry experience in pharmaceutical or biotech setting
Strong competency in purification (flash chromatography and HPLC) and structural determination (NMR and MS) methods
Astute ability to search research scientific literature, patents, and databases for synthetic planning and medicinal chemistry optimization
Experience in nanoparticle, macromolecule, and/or bioconjugation chemistry is advantageous, but not required
Meet your future team:
The Chemistry and Delivery Sciences team is a fun, energetic, and passionate group of individuals whose mission is to develop the chemical building blocks that enable curative therapies. You will report directly to the Principal Scientist, Chemistry who co-leads efforts to identify next-generation delivery systems for future clinical programs. Given the breadth of work on this team, the candidate will have the opportunity to explore a wide range of areas within the Chemistry and Delivery sciences spaces that support Intellia’s gene-editing pipeline.
The team is currently working mostly onsite to execute workflows in a wet-lab environment. Therefore, we require the candidate to be currently local to Cambridge MA, or open to relocating. While much of the day-to-day operations require wet-lab work, our team is focused on building not just technical expertise but fostering an environment for the growth of scientists interested in a career in biotech and chemistry. If you join our team, you can expect to join a hardworking and collaborative environment. We look forward to fostering your skills, learning from your experiences, and building a larger team that will make a difference in patient’s lives.
