How you will Achieve More with Intellia:

As a Scientist in the AAV Vector Biology group, you will help advance Intellia’s gene-editing platform and pipeline. This role will apply new approaches to design and optimize viral vectors for gene editing. The successful candidate will work cross-functionally with teams throughout the organization including disease biology, pre-clinical, manufacturing, and bioinformatics.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Independently plan and execute experiments to design and validate novel AAV vectors for gene editing

  • Interpret and communicate data as part of multi-disciplinary teams

  • Regularly survey primary research literature and patents

  • Advanced experimental troubleshooting and optimization

  • Contribute to the strategy and direction of Intellia’s platform and pipeline

  • Present findings internally and externally to cross-functional teams

  • Maintain a detailed electronic laboratory notebook

About You:

We are seeking an innovative scientist with experience optimizing and validating AAV vectors for gene therapy. The ideal candidate thrives on working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, displays outstanding communication skills, and is passionate about pioneering new gene-editing technologies to treat human diseases. Other important qualities include:

  • Degree in Molecular/Cell Biology, Genetics, Virology, Synthetic Biology, Bioengineering, or a closely related field

  • Experience with one or more of the following: Design and delivery of viral or non-viral vectors; Virus/Host interactions and immunogenicity; Gene editing technologies such as CRISPR/Cas9; AAV delivery and biodistribution in pre-clinical models; AAV vector biology

  • Hands-on experience with molecular biology methods including PCR, qPCR, DNA purification, SDS-PAGE, microscopy, and cloning

  • Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture and sterile technique

  • Familiarity with AAV production and purification methods

  • Excellent bench skills with attention to detail and high standards for data integrity and quality

  • Strong communication skills with the proven ability to work collaboratively

The Platform Innovation team is a collaborative, energetic, and passionate group of individuals whose mission is to advance and differentiate Intellia’s platform to enable curative therapies. You will join a team with vector design and production expertise and work closely with leaders in the field of CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing. The candidate will have many opportunities to broaden his or her experience with multiple cutting-edge gene therapy technologies that advance Intellia’s pipeline. 

The team is currently working mostly onsite to execute workflows in a wet-lab environment. Therefore, the candidate must be local to Cambridge MA, or open to relocating. While some of the day-to-day operations may be performed from a home office, maintaining a strong relationship with your teammates is critical for conveying your scientific expertise while fostering an environment for the growth of young scientists interested in a career in the biotech industry.
