Chemistry & Delivery Sciences:
Senior Associate Scientist

Why Join Intellia?

Our mission is to develop curative genome editing treatments that can positively transform the lives of people living with severe and life-threatening diseases.

Beyond our science, we live our four core values: One, Explore, Disrupt, Deliver and feel strongly that you can achieve more at Intellia. We have a single-minded determination to excel and succeed together. We believe in the power of curiosity and pushing boundaries. We welcome challenging thoughts and imagination to develop innovative solutions. And we know that patients are counting on us to make the promise a reality, so we must maintain high standards and get it done.

We want all of our people to go beyond what is possible. We aren’t constrained by typical end rails, and we aren’t out to just “treat” people. We’re all in this for something more. We’re driven to cure and motivated for change. Just imagine the possibilities of what we can do together.

How You Will Achieve More With Intellia:

Lead projects that characterize and improve the potency of RNAs relevant to CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing. Responsible for coordinating a cross function team to implement biochemical assays that characterize RNA structure and activity metrics.  Research and utilize literature to develop new and improve existing assays that characterize gRNA and mRNA in chemical, biophysical, biochemical, and cell-based contexts. Independently manage production workstream that leverages enzymatic reactions to produce research grade mRNA on both small and large scale. Maintain current SOPs to synthesize and characterize RNA purity, activity, and stability in vitro. Collaborate across teams for appropriate sample preparation and downstream sample analysis. Mentor and train junior research associates on assigned projects and in-house techniques. Conduct, troubleshoot, and design experiments that drive decision making, both independently and in collaboration with colleagues to reach desired goals. Communicate research and development findings with internal and external partners.

About You:

Master’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a directly related field plus one (1) year of industrial experience building and characterizing nucleic acids in support of CRISPR/Cas gene editing therapeutic applications.

Must have 1 year of experience in each of the following (experience may be gained concurrently):

  • Experience building and implementing biochemical characterization methods that translate into building next generation nucleic acid therapeutic modalities

  • Experience implementing assays relevant to nucleic acids and proteins, including gel and capillary electrophoresis

  • Experience maintaining capillary electrophoresis equipment

  • Assay Development experience with Bio-layer inferometry (BLI) and micro scale thermophoresis (MST) to quantitate binding thermodynamics and kinetics of guide RNA with CRISPR/Cas proteins

  • Experience with molecular beacon reporter systems to characterize enzymatic activities in vitro
