How you will Achieve More with Intellia:

As a Senior Automation Engineer, you will join a rapidly growing team of engineers whose focus is the integration and ongoing support of a range of automated platforms across the research organization. You will specifically spearhead development of new automation projects in the Delivery Sciences group, assessing the needs of our scientists and automating assays utilizing our collection of integrated and stand-alone liquid handling, sample storage and high-throughput fully-automated platforms. In this role, other key responsibilities include: 

  • Designing, implementing, and troubleshooting experiments as they are transitioned from bench to automation, both independently and in collaboration with scientists  

  • Excellent communication across functional teams 

  • Improving and designing new methods for Hamilton Venus integrated with a robotic arm  

  • Integrating workflows with our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) 

  • Evaluating new technologies directly with vendors in microfluidics and particle analytics space 

  • Thinking creatively to optimize workflows by increasing throughput and improving ease-of-use  

  • Troubleshooting hardware, software and user errors promptly and independently  

  • Working with scientists to develop User Requirement Specifications to coordinate experimental design, validation and execution of new assays within agreed-upon timelines  

  • Collaborating with our software team to improve data traceability and UI ease-of-use 

  • Designing custom-engineered solutions for uncommon or novel lab workflows 

  • Discussing bottlenecks with the research team, identifying and independently implementing solutions to achieve group and company-wide goals on tight timelines  

About You:

Are you a natural problem solver? Do you have strong independent troubleshooting skills but have always wondered what it would be like to collaborate with a larger team? Are you a fast learner who enjoys implementing lab solutions using automation? We are looking for a candidate with a B.S/M.S. in Molecular Biology, Computer Science or Engineering disciplines with 4+ years of lab instrumentation hardware and/or software experience. The ideal candidate will have concrete programming language experience (Python, Javascript, C++, etc) and at least one liquid handling and/or scheduling software platform (Venus, Cellario, VWorks, GreenButtonGo, EVOware etc) an understanding of LIMS integration, and a long track record of solving complex problems in a lab setting.   

Meet your Future Team:

You will be joining our Automation team which is part of the broader AEGIS (Automation Engineering, Genomics, Informatics, Screening) team You’ll directly report to the Principal Automation Engineer whose team possesses a wide-ranging set of skills learned over years of varied Biotech industry experience.  Given the breadth of applications we support, the candidate will have the opportunity to explore a wide range of areas but would begin within the Delivery Sciences group working directly with end users and software engineering group to build out a Hamilton Vantage-based high-throughput liquid nanoparticle characterization integration. As the primary automation engineer within Delivery Sciences, there is tremendous opportunity for career advancement and further automation build out. The ideal candidate would be able to work independently with a drive to move projects forward and communicate effectively across various teams. As part of the larger Automation team, with its collaborative environment, and varied skill sets and expertise, you’ll still have resources to lean on and learn from.      

The team is currently working onsite therefore, candidates who apply should to be local to Cambridge, MA or open to relocating. QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • BS, MS in Engineering or Computer Science discipline with 2+ years lab experience 

  • BS, MS in Molecular Biology with 4+ years of strong, applicable industry experience
