At Intellia, the executives care about everybody’s voice, so every one of us can make a difference. Also, I’m given enough time and freedom to learn novel technologies and apply them to my work.

I’m confident that the work Intellia does will change human lives dramatically in the near future. It’s very exciting to be part of it. Genome editingAlso called gene editing. We are finding out what makes one better than another and the contribution each one makes. All this can be described and predicted in a quantitative way.

On a personal note

My work has greatly changed the way experimental scientists do their daily work at Intellia. Some of the stuff I built enables them do things hundreds of times faster. That is so satisfying.

The company has an aura of energy and excitement that I felt the minute I walked in the door. The culture at Intellia is one of inclusion and collaboration. Everyone has a voice that is heard and valued. I can see and feel the impact that I am having on the success of the company. We are all very passionate about what we do, but no one takes themselves too seriously. I have had a tremendous amount of growth in my career during my time at Intellia. I highly value the company’s commitment to career growth and development and making sure that employees feel valued.

I could not pass up the opportunity to work on such ground-breaking science. The technology is extremely exciting and moving at a pace that I have never experienced before.

On a personal note

Intellia’s mission is to create and deliver medicines. If I can help fulfil that, I have exceeded my mission. Good friends of mine have a son diagnosed at the age of two with a life-threatening condition. I know we can use our technology to create a treatment.

The ability to deliver a therapy in a single administration and potentially be curative is game-changing.

I hope to improve healthcare for the next generation. Exciting and disruptive science and great people – those are the most compelling reasons to work here.

CRISPR/Cas9Adapted from a naturally occurring bacterial immune system, CRISPR is an acronym for Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats. One of the proteins in the CRISPR system is known as CRISPR-associated 9 protein or Cas9 protein, which acts as a pair of ‘molecular scissors’ to cleave DNA. Researchers have co-opted the bacterial CRISPR/Cas9 system to make specific changes in the DNA of humans, other animals and plants. CRISPR/Cas9 was first harnessed in 2012 as a genome editing tool in the lab. More recently, scientists have begun engineering and testing CRISPR systems to be very specific to a desired genetic target. therapeutics is a cutting-edge technology that can positively transform the lives of people living with severe and life-threatening diseases.

On a personal note

For most part of my career, I have worked on RNAi delivery and have seen its translation from bench to the clinic. I feel excited to be part of Intellia, where I am working on the translation of CRISPR technology from the bench to the clinic as well.
